H&W Goldendoodles
Some things just fill
your heart without trying
WHO WE ARE
We are a small family from Scottsville, KY. We are the proud owners of 1 female & 1 male Goldendoodle; whom we consider to be normal, everyday, members of our family.
Oh, who are we kidding? Our Goldendoodles are one of the most EXCITING parts of our family. As you can see below, our days are spent with lots of playtime, kisses, & extra snuggling with "our" Herold & Wilma. We feel truly blessed to be "their" people.

Meet Herold & Wilma
A love story.
Herold

As a family we will probably never forget the first time we got to meet Herold when we visited him at his breeders home for the first time. Although, I think, the moment was especially memorable for me. When I first saw him he had these big, beautiful, & lushes eyebrows. He immediately, & I mean immediately, reminded me of my Great Grandfather Herold. Some of my earliest memories as a child were of Grandpa Herold who was always so kind & loving towards me. I knew immediately we had to name the sweet new member of our family after him. As funny as it may sound, Herold reminds me a lot of those memories of my Great Grandfather, as he really is the sweetest of souls.
When we named Herold, I always knew in the back of my mind that
we couldn't have a Herold without a Wilma.
(ssshhh...Just don't tell my husband that!)

You see, as a young girl I grew up with my Great Grandma Wilma telling me about her marriage to my Great Grandpa Herold. As I grew older, I had always hope & prayed I would find someone to spend my life with that loved me the way Grandpa Herold & Grandma Wilma loved each other. As I am sure their lives together were far from perfect, what I observed was something rare & special. This rarity became even more apparent to me when I became a single pregnant mom at the age of 18.
Sadly, my Great-Grandpa Herold passed away when I was still very young. As I grew older, I was lucky to be able to continue a relationship with my Grandma Wilma, especially when so many do not ever get the opportunity to even meet their Great-Grandparents. .I very much cherished my relationship with her. When I became pregnant, I wanted to be the first to tell her.
I remember nervously taking her to eat at Mary's Diner & sharing the news with her that many received with worry or disapproval. I will never forgot her response. She looked at me with nothing but love & happiness in her eyes. She told me how proud she was that she was going to be able to see her great great grandchild. She leaned in & whispered to me, as if it was still a secret, "you know Grandpa Herold & I were married for 6 months before our parents even knew" & then she looked up, ordered her dinner, & kept a smile on her face the entire time. I'm not quire sure she knew exactly how much that moment in my life meant to me, although I hope she is looking down on me now & can see how her love in that very moment had such a positive impact on my life to come.
Some, probably even my own family members, may question why we would choose to name our sweet Goldendoodles after my great-grandparents but anyone who truly knows the unconditional love dogs have within ones heart & truly consider them as members of the family know that their names came from a place of love & honor.

Herold is currently 5 years old & is an FB2 Goldendoodle. Herold's mother was a F1 Goldendoodle & his father was a Purebred Standard Poodle (although we joke & say his father was a GIANT Poodle because Herold is a strikingly large dog. We adopted Herold from a local breeder in Alvaton, KY.
Herold is a very sweet boy who loves to get "new" toys, loves to play hide & seek with our human children, & absolutely loves to go on trips to town in the car. Herold has grown up with our now 6 year old son Jax; one of the sweetest moments to catch is Herold after he has fallen asleep with Jax snuggling right beside him.

Wilma is currently three years old & is an F2 Goldendoodle. Wilma's mother was a F1 Goldendoodle & her father was a a F1 Goldendoodle. We adopted Wilma from a local breeder in Horse Cave, KY.

Wilma has such a gentle temperament & loves to be anywhere members of her family are. We constantly joke that Wilma thinks our 6 year old, Jax, is her baby as she is always taking care of him and loving on him. When Jax is in the yard she doesn't let him wander very far from her line of sight. Wilma is a wonderful & attentive first time mom to her new puppies.

What does F & B terminology mean?
-
F1B Goldendoodle: The F stands for Filial Hybrid. This simply means that it is a hybrid dog that came from two purebred dogs.
-
F1B Goldendoodle: The 1 stands for the generation the dog is. In this specific case, the 1 means 1st generation.
-
F1B Goldendoodle: The B stands for Backcross. Backcross is a fancy term that simply means breeding back to a purebred generation. Typically for Goldendoodles, this means breeding back to a 100% Standard Poodle for hypoallergenic and non-shedding purposes.

Are they hypoallergenic & do they shed?

For a dog to be considered hypoallergenic, it must be very unlikely to trigger an allergic response in the body. The Greek word “hypo” literally means “under or less” and is opposite to the word “hyper”. Dogs to even be considered hypoallergenic must have hair that doesn’t shed. Hair that doesn’t shed permits the dander and dead skin particles to remain inside the hair as opposed to being discharged into the air. Fun fact, it’s extremely rare that individuals are actually allergic to dog hair or fur, but it’s the dander from skin particles are make people have pet allergies. Our children have severe pet allergies & we have experienced no issues with Herold & Wilma or their litter of puppies- and my children spent a large portion of their day with these puppies as my youngest is currently being home-schooled.

As far as shedding goes Goldendoodles do not shed, however there hair does continue to grow, much like human hair, and a regular brushing schedule with a sticker brush is essential in their weekly care to prevent matting. A regular grooming schedule is important as Goldendoodles are prone to mats if they are not groomed regularly.
